Death of a Friend

I can't think of many things that are harder to explain than the death of a friend, especially a young friend. Today most of my fraternity brothers and I woke up to an email explaining that one of our friends had died while on board a transatlantic flight. The cause of death is not yet known but many speculate a blood clot. It seems tragic that a 20 year old friend could die doing something so many people do. It could have been anybody. Getting blood clots on airplanes seems like one of those things that you know can happen but never does. Sure, you sit cramped for a long time but you'd never expect that the blood in your legs could thicken to the point that it forms a clot that can travel to your brain and kill you. He was such a good guy.

This all seems unreal right now, but I will definitley be taking aspirin* before I fly from now on and I hope all of you do too.

*aspirin thins the blood.

Kevin's graduation

Yesterday my brother graduated. Here are some pics of the graduation held at the Air Force Academy. It was a nice venue, but the bastards made me throw away an unopened bottle of water for "security reasons." I was so suprised to see them selling nearly identical bottles of water for $3.00 a bottle just on the other side of security...

A Day on Cheyenne Mountain

Today my dad was in town before my brother's graduation so we spent the day on Cheyenne Mountain. The first few pictures following this entry are from the Will Rogers Shrine of the Sun, which at over 8000 feet has a great view of the city. I'm not sure what Will Rogers did to deserve a shrine with a sick view of the city, but I wasn't there to learn about that. I just wanted the view.

The other pictures are from the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. It was us and a bunch of families with little kids. Kevin wanted to go. It was a ton of fun though and we got to see a white lion - there are only 50 left in the world according to the obnoxious recording that just runs on repeat near the pen.

back to looking for a place to live...

It always makes you feel like shit when you see this in the zoo doesn't it? Why do the giraffes always get it better? Cheyenne Mountain Zoo.

First Day in the Springs

Hey,

I spent my first day in Colorado Springs looking for apartments but in the evening my brother and I decided to head to Palmer Park to hike around and take some pics. We happened to be there during sunset, which was awesome. Unfortunately the sun sets behind the mountains so it isn't the best time of day to take pictures of them, but we had fun wandering around in the park. The following pics are from this evening. enjoy.
